Sovereignty beat Journalism in the 2025 Kentucky Derby.

Sovereignty, ridden by Junior Alvarado and trained by Bill Mott, won the 151st running of the race at Churchill Downs on May 3, 2025, finishing 1.5 lengths ahead of Journalism, the 3-1 favorite, which came in second. Baeza placed third.

The race was run on a sloppy track due to rain, with Sovereignty completing the 1.25-mile course in 2:02.31.
