–Government and military officials / politicians have no mandate to make these life-taking retaliation decisions AT ALL.
Opinion by Mathew Carr
April 13, 2024 (Corrected date on April 16 of Israel’s apparent attack in Syria to April 1 – April Fool’s day)
— Israel can claim many things, yet it cannot credibly claim it deserves mercy.
See this Reuters report on probable upcoming vengeance:
apple.news/ALLr3WcU_RHqsd8Yp95zVPg
In return for the deaths of 1,200 Israelis on Oct. 7, US-backed Israel has killed about 33,000 people, 70% being women and children (Wikipedia).
That’s about 28 revenge killings per death.
After Israel killed 7 soldiers in the Iran embassy in Syria on Monday April 1, Iran was considering…what is a proportionate response?
News service DW says “more than 10” were killed. Isreal has not accepted responsibility for the missile attack.
DW: More than 10 people were killed, among them two high-ranking members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps: Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander in the Quds Force, and his deputy, Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi. Zahedi was said to have been particularly closely connected to the Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
(How many were women and children?)

Iran does not need to respond at all but such a decision seems unlikely, Reuters reports.
That is understandable.
I doubt Iran will adopt Israel’s playbook and kill women and children.
So in return for showing restraint on women and children, can Iran take the decision to take the useful lives of even more Israeli soldiers? Perhaps 256 humans?
What’s fair enough?
The more fundamental point in all this is that government and military officials / politicians have no mandate to make these decisions AT ALL.
Israel-created Hamas had no mandate to kill 1,200 Israelis on Oct 7…whether you believe Gazans were backed into a corner for decades, or not.
I do believe it.
The US and Israel had no mandate for their vengeance.
99.9% of people everywhere want this surge in revenge killing to simply stop (CarrZee guesstimate).
Iran can show global leadership and find a different way to respond.
Perhaps it can ban the sale of Israeli products within its borders for a year? Two years? Seven years …one for each death? 128 years?
Israel has shown it deserves no mercy …or at least its so-called leaders have.
Iran can show the world a better way … and not fall into the trap set by the US-Israel military-industrial-intelligence complex.
It’s time the world stops spending money and lives on this bullshit.
The seven-to-10 Iranians killed can become martyrs to a greater cause … the historic end of the global era of retaliatory war.

[…] Based on the Israel-US definition of proportionality Iran should be allowed to kill 193 Israelis […]
