Puro carbon removals steady at €123; Corsia on ICE volatile — from $13 to $8; EU co2 slides; CME down to $1.59 (1)

Comment, reporting by Mathew Carr

Oct. 23, 2023 — The various carbon markets are volatile and wildly crazy because governments are failing the climate.

The contracts have amazingly different prices as governments fail to bring rationality to demand and supply — even amid the acute climate crisis.

Range is 120 euros to $1.59 / ton.

Prices should all be well above €120 to incentivize the dramatic carbon emissions cuts that are needed.

History will show this period for greenhouse gas markets that’s now extending to more than three decades is completely crazy.
