Last Day of UK Summer Holidays Suffer Chaos After Flights Shut Down (2)

Aug. 28-29, 2023: In a blow to travellers to, from and within Britain, landings and takeoffs were shut down by authorities due to a technical issue that wasn’t well explained — on the last day of summer holidays.

UK airspace remained open (correct — I misused the term “airspace” in the first version of this story), the Financial Times reported Tuesday.

Warning on Heathrow Airport’s website:

Flight Disruptions – 28th August 2023

National Air Traffic Services (NATS) are currently experiencing an outage and have applied air traffic restrictions across the UK. We recommend that passengers contact their airline for the most up to date travel advise before heading to Heathrow.
