Aug. 4, 2026– Tendring District Council, which is overseeing the controversial by-election in England’s Clacton region, has declined to comment on its apparent bias toward Nigel Farage, the far-right incumbent candidate struggling to shrug off his links to a criminal known as Posh George and the £5m in crypto donations he received that seem a little, well, dodgy.

The bias is on clear display right now — on the outside front wall of Clacton’s pretty Town Hall. The council is run by independents so its behavior was surprising to me. It will cease to exist on April fool’s day in 2028 (April 1) after a shakeup of local councils in England.

Farage’s nomination was deemed worthy of getting more “assenters” than the other 33 candidates, a record number of contenders for a seat in the House of Commons. (I’m one of them.)

Farage was allowed 30 vs 10 for everyone else.

I’m pretty sure I had more than 10 valid assenters to my candidacy yet mine was trimmed to 10.

I’ve tried for many days to get Tendring Council to explain.

I got this back from Cllr Mark Stephenson, the council leader:

Fair enough? I doubt it.

This is a clear example of public servants doing whatever they want instead of properly doing their job…Doing it improperly damages democracy.

Does the council want Mr Farage to become the next prime minister and is that the Council’s choice? Maybe and no.

Or is it properly the people’s choice? Yes.

The public service and corporations more widely have forgotten who is in charge.

There are other ways Tendring District Council has failed.

It was also failed to properly provide space for the 34 candidates to meet voters and hold hustings

The law

The council eventually relented and allowed a hustings after stalling…then did not confirm the event until the same day as the event. So it was not marketed very well. Farage bought ad space surrounding the write up in the Clacton Gazette.
