Radio Caroline accidentally declared the King dead on Harry and Meghan’s wedding anniversary.
On Tuesday afternoon (19 May), a computer error at Radio Caroline’s main studio in Maldon, Essex accidentally triggered the station’s “Death of a Monarch” procedure.
With the help of Claude….partly unchecked.
The station interrupted regular programming to solemnly declare: “This is Radio Caroline. We have suspended our normal programs until further notice as a mark of respect following the passing of His Majesty King Charles III.”
It then played “God Save the King” before going silent for around 15 minutes.
The silence itself is what alerted staff to the error — they then restored programming and issued an on-air apology.
Station manager Peter Moore explained that the death of a monarch protocol is something all UK stations hold in readiness while hoping never to need.
On the day of the incident, King Charles and Queen Camilla were actually in Belfast, Northern Ireland, attending a cultural celebration at Thompson Dock — the dry dock where the Titanic was built.
The station apologised to the King and to listeners for any distress caused.
…..
…what a coincidence with the Radio Caroline ‘blunder’! Harry and Meghan married on 19 May 2018 at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle , so this week was their 8th anniversary.
They marked the occasion by releasing previously unseen photos from their wedding day, including shots on the dance floor and a passionate kiss surrounded by guests.
So Radio Caroline accidentally declared the King dead on Harry and Meghan’s wedding anniversary.
