New UN carbon market still being starved of cash (1)

Aug. 8, 2025 — The start of the UN carbon market needed to help save the climate is being delayed by lack of money — still.

This from supervisory body meeting report just published

“While early implementation of the mechanism is progressing, the Supervisory Body is facing a financial shortfall as revenue generation is currently limited.

Even with contingency measures in place, potential resource reallocation and fundraising activities, a significant shortfall remains between available resources and the needs-based allocation required to deliver on the Supervisory Body’s mandate.

The Supervisory Body has adopted this minimal operational capacity approach given the current financial situation under which the body is operating.

The Supervisory Body therefore invites the CMA to assist in mobilizing resources to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of its mandated work.”
