Trump’s tariffs threat was always a negotiation bluff.
Bullies are usually too cowardly to actually start a fight where they know they will get badly hurt … especially when their popularity will evaporate if the new US president starts stoking American inflation by placing massive tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China.
Like the Fed, which declined to drop interest rates, I’d wait and see whether Trump is bluffing …if I was leader of one of those three countries … just sit tight.
I doubt Trump is brave enough to press on and start a brutal global trade war.
His anti-woke stance risks his presidency real quick …and his legacy … as nature and climate risks mount.
See this WSJ.

To be clear, I think starting a big trade war right now could be the shock that the world needs to shift to a more sustainable, collaborative footing.
If the world collectively joins together to resist Trump’s GDP-obsessed agenda, the USA will eventually fall into line….after a period of acute pain.
Trump does not seem the guy brave enough to do it. But his billionaire puppet masters might insist.
The billionaires, seeing the dysfunction in the global political class, might be stepping in to save the planet….and awaken the global electorate … who are seeing their human rights erode.
Distracted by Netflix, sport and porn … the people largely don’t seem to care.
Btw Netflix is doing a better job disclosing global USA fuckery ( eg by the CIA) than the mainstream media… check out:

This trade-war scenario might awaken the people … since real wars have not.
More likely, the billionaires are simply interested in boosting their money and power…eroding competitive tension around the world … and in extending their 80 years of stealing from the people.
I’m trying to stay hopeful.
