Nov. 10, 2024 — The climate negotiations starting in Baku, Azerbaijan, next week could become global peace talks.
Those global leaders planning not to attend talks during the next two weeks between almost 200 nations in the pursuit of making the world livable, sustainable and without brutality are misadvised.
The latest is Dutch PM Dick Schoof, who seems to think anger domestically toward Israel football fans is an excuse to avoid trying to set up the world for peace .. and seeing protection of the climate from further deterioration…after more than 30 years of trying under United Nations efforts.
Compared with the death and destruction imposed on Gaza, Lebanon and Iran, the football violence is small, even if symbolic of how the world feels about the violent global culture that has allowed the death of 40,000 plus Palestinians and others…including defenceless babies.
With the chance of a global peaceful reset provided by Donald Trump’s US election win, all leaders should converge on Baku.
People advising Mr Trump (not speaking for him) are agreeing that peace is more important than returning land taken by Russia.
Qatar, who has heroically sought Middle East peace, has lost patience with pretend negotiations for sustainability offered by Hamas and Israel’s deeply flawed leadership.
The time is now for peace and for using technology to prevent extension of a global economic and political culture that has failed the world’s 8 billion people for decades.
