New British government’s response to cover-up culture and whistleblowers seems weak …but it is a start (1)

The U.K. king said this in his speech Wednesday:

“My Government will take steps to help rebuild trust and foster respect. Legislation will be brought forward to introduce a duty of candour for public servants [Hillsborough Law].”

See these briefing notes, snipped immediately below and in full at the bottom.

This seems a little positive.

Yet will this law apply to new PM Keir Starmer and his cabinet? Will he be more candid about his role in harassing Assange, failing to prosecute Savile?

It’s unclear.

It appears Labour will be just as bad as the Tories on getting justice for Windrush folks, Grenfell, bad blood, corrupt police, Post Office, sexual abuse, rapist victims etc … what about climate, judiciary and NHS whistleblowers?

….unless they put meat on these tiny bones …and …

Surely an 80 year limit to lawmakers is fair enough. There is nothing to stop aging parliamentarians from engaging in public debate after that.

Few of the govt priorities seem really “for the people” instead of “for corporations“.
