‘The message is as barbaric as the crime for me’: Ridiculous

This is a strange news story from Sky News about how privacy is important after a grizzly crime.

I understand why the dad of one of the people killed said the sentence in the headline.

But describing the crime in a blunt way is not as barbaric — in anyway near the same way — as this crime.

My instinct is that in a free society people and police must be able to frankly discuss violence publicly … in order to better police it.

The needs of victims and families are important…and should be protected where possible.

Yet suppressing free speech won’t make for a more sustainable society.

Shooting the messenger is still aiming at the wrong person. No matter how clumsy that person is.
