—Fake apologetics … no financial accountability?
Reporting and opinon by Mathew Carr
Jan. 31-Feb 1, 2024 — Senator Ted Cruz and others (eg Marsha Blackburn) hold Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg to account at hearing Wednesday.
Zuckerberg dodges key questions…indicates data may be lost (eg how many times child-abuse warnings were clicked past by scrollers.)
CarrZee: The US has failed to properly regulate — not only the tech industry — but big pharmaceutical, food, banking, insurance and fossil fuel companies. Reckless greed seems to be America’s thing.
Many billions of people have suffered around the world because of that bad regulation. It’s not the only bad regulator. UK was/is bad at spotting and dealing with money laundering, which has allowed dark money to gain vast influence in Europe, Russia and beyond.
Zuckerberg said Meta had produced more abuse-risk reports than the rest of the industry combined. He cited the figure 26 million.

NBC:

Notice it was a fake apology… he didn’t say sorry for what Meta did but for what the victims ‘went through’ — as if Instagram was a passive participant.

Zuckerberg looked surprised when asked if he’d paid financial compensation to those sent child abuse footage.
