Dec. 13, 2023 — Article 6 texts didn’t arrive today, as indicated they might by a person familiar with negotiations.
The 6.2 and 6.4 talks apparently ended with no deal, eroding the incentive for investors to prepare in 2024 to use them.
The global stocktake documents mentioned article 6 three times but didn’t say that much. There is also a section there on international cooperation.
I spoke with a participant from a large south-Asian nation this morning (Wednesday) Dubai time, who said he felt more hopeful about the direction of climate talks than at the same time last year.
Voluntary carbon markets will keep moving — even without much progress on 6.2 and 6.4 of the Paris deal, he said.
6.8 text is on the UNFCCC website, but nothing dated today (Dec. 13) on 6.2 and 6.4.
