Legal Industry Risks Facilitating the End of History (1)

Nov. 5, 2023 — Listen to my interview on Friday with Ken Murphy, chairman of the International Bar Association’s Bar Issues Commission, who said the legal industry needs to push back against clients behaving badly.

Murphy appeared to concede the legal industry was in a fight to ensure it’s not captured by global corporations…before backtracking and saying that notion was a caricature.

Law firms advising damaging corporations are “feeling the heat” on their reputations, he said. “I do think the profession is very conscious of its reputation.”

“I have no doubt that there is a culture change taking place in the profession.”

“There may be no history in the future if we don’t get the environment issue right.”

He said it was the role of the media to scrutinise the government and bad laws. CarrZee: I don’t disagree.

What do you think?
