Norway can’t “depend on oil and gas for the long term” and polluters need to pay more for their emissions in all countries, said Erna Solberg, Norway’s former prime minister.
Fossil fuels will be needed for many years, but supplying them won’t be as profitable, she said. Norway’s economy is already pivoting away from them.
On global carbon markets, the world will have a UN stamp on a system — at some point in the future, she said at the Economist Impact conference.
“We are not at the right path. We need to speed up on emission cutting.”
Climate change is “so costly. It’s so damaging. We need to be more forceful,” in making sure emissions are cut.
