Reporting and opinion by Mathew Carr
July 10, 2023 — Former Australian PM Paul Keating calls NATO head a “supreme fool” for seeking to export violent “malicious poison” to Asia.
Here is a counterpoint:
CarrZee’s take: Let’s try to get on — collaborate — at the global level to solve worldwide problems such as the climate crisis, overspending on nuclear weapons, inequality.
Let’s stop the competition between tax regimes that hurt taxpayers and help the rich. Let’s make polluters pay.
We don’t have to give up national sovereignty to collaborate globally. Just agree guardrails and be less selfish, protectionist.
We need to agree that markets only will work if they are structured to protect the vulnerable and to curb the instincts of greedy people.
Former PM Keating is providing some balance to the biased pro-NATO narrative in the western mainstream press. Hopefully, it will help that needed collaboration come about.
