Dutch Natgas Plunges 9% as Temperatures to Surge Next Few Days, Cutting Demand

By Mathew Carr

Dec. 16, 2022 — Dutch natgas prices dropped 9% as temperatures are set to surge the next few days, rising 11C in London in the next three days.

That will substantially reduce heating demand after a week-long freeze. More people are hesitating to put on their gas boilers and are using electric heaters, transitioning demand away from fossil fuels, to some degree.

Temperatures are also rising in Berlin, though it will take until Thursday for a jump that’s similar in scale to the one enjoyed by the U.K. capital through Monday.
