US President Mr. Joe Biden reportedly said:
He thought Russia should be removed from the G-20, adding that the decision was up to the group. He said the issue was discussed Thursday among leaders. He said that he had raised the idea that if it wasn’t possible to remove Russia, Ukraine should be allowed to attend the meetings and observe. A G-20 summit is scheduled to be held in Bali, Indonesia, in the fall.
CarrZee: Without Russia, a G20 deal to limit climate damage would probably become more likely. Of course, it would be better to include Russia in any climate deal. A surge in Russian emissions could easily offset a significant portion of the emissions-cutting work done by the remaining G20.
Russia has been badly treated by the United Nations climate process because it has not been given much credit — in reality — for the emissions drops associated with the collapse of the Soviet Union.
To be sure, Russia did create during the past 15 years some questionable carbon credits under the UN carbon programs of the Kyoto Protocol.
