Regional Trade Agreements Can Help the Climate, But More Measurement Needed: WTO paper

EXCERPT: Although there is no empirical evidence on the environmental effectiveness of provisions on climate change in regional trade agreements (RTAs) to date, empirical research reports a positive effect of environmental provisions in RTAs on the reduction of emissions of selected pollutants, including CO2 emissions.

Yet, despite increased explicit references to climate change in RTAs, more effort is needed to gauge the effectiveness of these provisions in addressing climate change adaptation and mitigation.
