Statement: The VCMI Secretariat is moving to a new home at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, to deliver the next phase of work which will focus on building partnerships, as well as finalising and implementing the VCMI Claims Code of Practice. We expect the transition to be fully complete by the end of this month.
We are grateful to the many organisations and individuals who have contributed along the way. We are making strong progress with your support, and we encourage you to re opt-in to our mailing list to keep up-to-date with VCMI news and opportunities and to continue participating in our collective effort to bring integrity to climate claims. If you do not sign-up, you will cease to receive communication from VCMI.
VCMI has been busy running a public consultation and road-testing phase, following the launch of the VCMI Provisional Claims Code of Practice on 7th June.
The Claims Code is a step-by-step guide for buyers of carbon credits. It seeks to answer two critical questions:
- When and how should companies and other Non-State Actors make voluntary use of carbon credits as part of their net zero commitments?
- What credible claims can they make about this use?
Following multiple requests for more time to contribute responses to the consultation, we are happy to announce that we have decided to extend our timeline to provide feedback until 31st August 2022, to help us further develop and finalise the Claims Code. You can access the report and online consultation form here.
In addition, VCMI has also been looking into how VCMI claims should be governed, assured and enforced, and is looking forward to publishing a summary of recommendations in coming weeks.
