Murdoch press gets even worse on climate news after succession deal (1)

Opinion by Mathew Carr

Oct. 14-15, 2025 — I thought it couldn’t get worse. Then it did.

Lachlan Murdoch appears to behaving even worse than his father — even more biased against climate action — after taking control of News Corp.

Eg check out this awful Australian newspaper piece.

The Australian’s Greg Brown appears to think it’s not legitimate for the Aussie government to seek global collaboration to save the climate.…even though he must be acutely aware of the crisis.

I’ve numbered some of his propaganda.

  1. It is shocking that coal is seeking charity status after ruining the climate. It has been deceptively campaigning for decades. It’s pure gaslighting to turn the victim (renewables) into the villain.
  2. Climate investment is being turned into “secret foreign donations” by the Murdoch press. laughable if it was t so sinister.
  3. Murdoch turns a good thing ——going green —— into a bad one.

4. People wanting the climate to stay nice labelled as “activist groups” whose funding is mysterious. This is the fossil fuel folks sneakily trying to transfer their bad behavior ….onto others.

5. Murdoch pretends fossil fuels are safe and that they boost security when he knows they cause wars.…and he knows that solar and wind and battery and hydrogen and uranium and hydro systems are more secure.

6. Australia is finally showing a little leadership with its target because it has used an unfair portion of the global carbon budget. It’s cowardly that the government does not say this. Climate justice is the trickiest part of climate action.

7. Australia’s ambitious target WILL encourage India and China to be even more ambitious. Murdoch must know this but his reporter deliberately misleads his customer readers here to buttress support for bad press regulation (probable)….it’s the bad press regulation that allows this to happen.

The Australian demonstrates it complicity in environmental destruction via the second-last paragraph.

Here it admits it knows China and India is already doing the right thing and so it knows the entire framing of this story is false:

At least Murdoch includes this! And for a second time! …yet few will read these important messages as they are so low in the story.

Australia has had 35 years to do the right thing and it hasn’t. Now it’s begging India and China for help. I won’t be surprised if India and China want to focus their investments domestically.

What goes around, comes around, Australia (my home country). Deep sigh.
