UK Government Sneaking Yet Another Fossil Fuel Subsidy Into Law

By Mathew Carr

Sept. 28, 2023 — This press release published this morning is shameful.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/renewables-obligation-level-calculations-2024-to-2025/calculating-the-level-of-the-renewables-obligation-for-2024-to-2025

Govt deploys funky acronym EII, or Energy Intensive Industry, to confuse.

That is big business who…apparently not happy being shielded 85% from the country’s obligation to buy renewables …want to be shielded 100%.

Deep sigh

CarrZee: Are dirty, greedy industrialists threatening to take their investments elsewhere? Rishi should say, instead: “Well go away then. We want clean investors. We need the room in Britain for more climate-related immigrants, so yes …go away and make some space.“

What am I missing, folks?

Key bit…we might not do this afterall, says the government (and they shouldn’t I say …because Britain doesn’t want industry that’s refusing to go green, refusing to transit)

*Note: UN climate talks are in Nov.-Dec. And perhaps Britain is doing some “diplomacy work” for the US to show China that western bully boys are still willing to prolong the 30 year standoff on climate protection for a few more deadly years yet. “Do what we want or we will do this reckless shit (above),” seems to be the message.

And Rishi dares to position himself as the long-term-thinker guy. If you think China is going to blink first, sir, you are freaking dreaming. It is time for the UK to blink some more and boost its climate ambition…then the emerging world will move, too.
