Dec. 18, 2020 — LONDON: China’s Central Economic Work Conference on Friday vowed to “formulate an action plan for peaking carbon dioxide emissions before 2030,” Xinhua said.

China will support ways to “peak emissions ahead of schedule.”

The world’s most populous nation and biggest emitter previously announced it would peak emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.

At the same time China would build more “independent and controllable” industrial supply chains as it forms a new development model.

The nation would “stimulate the vitality of market entities” as it opens up in an “all-round way.”

Wang Yi, state councilor and minister of foreign affairs, criticised some “strategic” mistakes by “some” U.S politicians in assuming China had bad intentions.

“China is not a threat to the United States. The bilateral relationship is no zero sum game,” he said in an event broadcast online by the Asia Society.

China congratulated richer nations for achieving wealth and urged those countries to help developing nations develop in a “win-win” way.

Some of President elect Biden’s priorities including climate change provided opportunities for cooperation.

Any plan to subvert China would be “mission impossible,” he said.

On trade “we need to replace confrontation and sanctions with dialogue and cooperation,” Wang Yi said.

“We shall not allow the law of the jungle to govern the world again.”
